Noorishment

It was only a few weeks ago when I remarked that Alfred Molina looks like a really Persian dude for not really being a Persian dude.

Lo and behold I read yesterday that Molina is cast, first bill, as one of the main characters in "The Prince of Persia." That movie is scheduled to be released next year right around this weekend, and as of now will have no actual Persians in the movie.

Not surprised, of course. It's from the pocketbook of Jerry Bruckheimer, an expert of big-budget schlock for small-minded people. Stuff that aims to make a splash visually but nary a blip in your mind. Nary like naria, the chronicles of, since playing the role of "Prince Dastan" will be Jake Gyllenhaal, who made a cameo in this SNL clip.

Another main character will be played by Ben Kingsley, who played Behrani the Iranian two-timer in House of Sand and Fog. That movie also featured Shohreh Aghdashloo, who recently did another dreary drama called "The Stoning of Soraya M" which was written by screenwriter (and registered Republican) Cyrus Nowratzadeh.  His film is adapted from this book.

That movie and a bunch of others will be featured at this weekend's 3rd annual Noor Film Festival.

Unfortunately there won't be an appearance by Rainn Wilson this year..
