Happy Thanksgiving y'all.
Having that "LiveNation" logo on the poster is a pretty big deal. LiveNation, a division of Clear Channel, is the most prominent live event producer in the world. (of course, it helps that their parent company is a monopoly) But if you head over to LiveNation's site for tix you'll see Maz's on the front page along with folks like Madonna and Metallica. And GWAR. Yes, even GWAR.
Speaking of being listed next to Metallica, until last night you would've seen the amusing link for "An Evening with EBI featuring Kamran & Hooman" over at the LA Forum site tucked between the Metallica and AC/DC shows. The show took place last night, which didn't make much sense (or dollars) because there was another FOB-friendly show on Wednesday at the Kodak Theatre featuring Shahram & Shohreh.
Not that I would've gone to either. Well, maybe the Ebi one. Just to see the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar statue.
Speaking of the Lakers, I heard a bunch of Persians are planning a welcome party for the first irooni NBA player when he comes to the Staples Center with his team.
This all reminds me that the late Wilt Chamberlain was a great friend of the Iranian community here. I recall watching the LA-based Parviz Gharib-Afshar Show on the International Channel on Time Warner Cable in the 1990s -- beemed live at 10pm PST every week -- and Wilt was a regular call-in guest of the show. Damesh garm.
