Access of Evil

I was flippin' through the channels last night in my hotel room, and the Arnold Schwarzenegger flick 'True Lies' was on, fittingly, TNT. It's weird to think the governor of this wonderfully multicultural state of ours was the star of a film accused of outlandish cultural stereotyping.

Meanwhile in my lap I was flippin' through the LA Weekly, and this interesting story caught my eye.

Back when I was a measley, pimplish college student a decade ago, I took a Middle Eastern Studies class. (Before it was fashionable to do so as it is now.) I made a cool video for the thesis, which I called something like "Middleastern Stereotypes in Hollywood: The Greatest Shits of Chuck Norris." I mashed-up hilarious outtakes from b-movies and some weird Gulf War documentaries that you can only find at a university library.

I've lost the master copy of that tape. But another Middleastern Midwestern director, Jackie Salloum, made something like it more recently.
